Former Undersecretary of Defense

Eric Edelman is Hertog Distinguished Practitioner in Residence at Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies and a Distinguished Fellow at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments.  He retired in 2009, after thirty years in government, as a Career Minister in the U.S. Foreign Service.  He has served as Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Ambassador to the Republics of Turkey and Finland, and as National Security Advisor to Vice President Richard Cheney, Special Assistant to Secretary of State George Shultz, and Executive Assistant to Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott.
